Speaker of the day: Bertrand Cardis — Creativity and Innovation

 Bertrand Cardis is a man of action. In 1981 and 1982, after obtaining his mechanical engineering degree from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, he participated as watch captain in the round-the-world race (Whitbread) with Pierre Fehlmann on the boat Disque d’Or 3.

In early 1984, he was one of the founders of the company Decision SA, worked there part-time, and qualified to represent Switzerland at the Los Angeles Summer Olympics with Rainer Fröhlich, where they finished in 13th place.

Upon his return from the Olympic Games, Bertrand Cardis joined Decision SA full-time. The company specializes in the manufacture of composite material structures; over the past 30 years, it has notably contributed to the success of well-known projects, such as with Ernesto Bertarelli to create the Alinghi Team sailboats or Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg in the “Solarimpulse” project.

In 2007 and 2008, he received awards from EPFL and the Vaud State Council, respectively, the “Alumni Award” and the “Mérite cantonal vaudois”.

In 2014, he participated in the creation of Carboman Group SA, a merger of Decision SA and Multiplast SAS in Vannes, where he became commercial director and administrator.

In 2015, he joined the Board of Directors of Sagrave SA.“Composite materials at the service of exciting and innovative projects”
