Who is Daniel Atienza?
Daniel Atienza started cycling at the age of 12 in Lucens. Over time, it became difficult for him to combine his studies, cycling, and participation in international events. In 1995, with his parents' agreement, he moved to Spain. After two months of brilliant results as an amateur, he finished as the best Spaniard in his very first selection for the World Championships.
After another season in Spain and a new selection for the World Championships in Lugano, he turned professional in 1997 and had a ten-year career with the teams Polti, Saeco, and Cofidis. He participated in three Tours de France, seven Vueltas, and one Giro, among others.
In 2006, he ended his cycling career to move into sales and customer service as an insurance advisor at Generali, which then entrusted him with the position of manager of the Lutry agency.
In parallel, he became a consultant for the Tour de Suisse on RTS in 2007.
He then took up running and, in 2012, became the unofficial record holder for ex-cyclists over 42.195 km. He was also the best Swiss in 2013 and 2015 at the New York Marathon.
Also involved in politics, Daniel Atienza served as a municipal councilor in Moudon for 2 and a half legislative terms.Speaker's spoken language
