Individual and Collective Motivation
Mélanie Astles is an aerobatics virtuoso and professional airline pilot.
A multiple-time French Aerobatics Champion, she has finished multiple times in the top 10 of the World and European Aerobatics Championships. She joined the ranks of Challenger Cup pilots and made history as the first woman to compete in the Red Bull Air Race.
Mélanie's story is one of passion, perseverance, and overcoming obstacles. No one believed she could achieve her childhood dream of becoming a pilot when she left Lycée Albert 1er de Monaco at 18 to enter the workforce. When she took a job at a gas station in Roquebrune Cap Martin, the dream seemed very out of reach. But thanks to her hard work, she went from cashier to manager of several gas stations and saved money to pay for flying lessons, which she started at 21. From her very first year of aerobatics competition, she won a victory at the Coupe de France in the Espoir category.
With constant progression, she climbed the categories, winning national championships and her place within the prestigious French Aerobatics Team. In 2014, she finished seventh at the "advanced" world aerobatics championships and first in the women's ranking. In 2015, she was ranked the 5th best female pilot in the world in the highest category – Unlimited – and was a member of the French team that won the world title.
