After passing his baccalaureate as a private candidate, he founded numerous companies in diverse fields such as consulting (Absolut), construction (Escalade Industrie), mobile music (Musiwave, sold for 139 million euros), co-creation (Eyeka, whose co-creator community is the largest in the world with 340,000 members), decision-making tools (CaptainDash)…
In April 2011, Gilles Babinet was elected as the first President of the National Digital Council (Conseil national du numérique - Cnnum). The Cnnum is responsible for informing public authorities about the challenges of the digital economy and improving dialogue between the government and the internet sector. Under his presidency, Gilles Babinet directed the Cnnum towards state reform and competitiveness initiatives. In particular, the Cnnum committed to the development of e-education, innovation financing, digital taxation, and open data.
In June 2012, he was appointed Digital Champion by the then Minister Delegate for Digital Affairs, Fleur Pellerin. In this capacity, he represents France's digital interests to the European Commission.
Gilles Babinet is the author of numerous works focused on the consequences and understanding of digital transformation. Gilles also collaborates with the Institut Montaigne on various projects related to competitiveness and digital technology. In October 2016, Gilles also published for the 3rd year, in partnership with Les Echos, the barometer of digital agility of CAC40 players, the eCAC40.
